DESCRIPTION:St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®\, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas\, is one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Children from all 50 states and from around the world have come through the doors of St. Jude for treatment\, and thousands more around the world have benefited from the research conducted at St. Jude – research that is shared freely with the global medical community. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance. \nThe Minden St. Jude auction began on KASO 1240 AM radio four decades ago and has grown to become a four-day telethon and raffle that is simultaneously broadcast on the local radio and cable station. Since it’s inception\, the Minden St. Jude auction has raised over $4 Million for children’s research benefitting St. Jude\, and Minden’s citizens hold the claim of raising more money for St. Jude\, per capita\, than any other city: $40 per person. \nLast year’s event raised an amazing $$1\,330\,226.00! It is obvious to see that the people of Northwest Louisiana take tremendous pride in this cause because they continue to overwhelming support this event to provide life saving treatments for children suffering with cancer. \nThis community’s amazing support will be evident again when the Minden 42nd Annual St. Jude Auction begins. This year’s event will be held Thursday\, February 1st through Sunday\, February 4th. Hundreds of enthusiastic volunteers and donors will return to the Minden Civic Center for a weekend of food\, chili-cook-offs\, entertainment\, blood-drives\, and of course fundraising for this important cause. This event which began as a one-day radio auction selling jams and cakes has evolved into a four-day televised festival which ends with the drawing for the Grand Prize choice between a 2017 GMC Yukon Denali or $50\,000 Cash (less tax withheld)!

DESCRIPTION:Volunteers for Youth Justice (VYJ) is hosting the sixth annual Battle of the Gumbo Gladiators\, a gumbo cook-off fundraiser\, to help abused\, neglected and at-risk children throughout Northwest Louisiana. Approximately 5\,000 people attended our event last year with 47 teams cooking 62 pots of gumbo. – it was again a success and we got tons of great coverage from radio\, television\, print and online media outlets in the Ark-La-Tex. \nBattle of the Gumbo Gladiators will be held Saturday\, March 24\, 2018 at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport\, Louisiana. The event will feature approximately 50+ gumbo teams battling for victory and a team of judges deciding who will be crowned “Ultimate Gumbo Gladiator.”

SUMMARY:NWLTC Archery Tournament
DESCRIPTION:ASA ARCHERY TOURNAMENT –\nCome join us for our 1st Annual Northwest Louisiana Technical College Scholarship Archery Shoot. This event will be held at our Minden Campus at 9500 Industrial Drive on Saturday\, April 28th. Sign-up from 8 am – 12 pm. Cost is $25 per adult shooter. Cost is $10 for shooters 10 years of age and younger. Proceeds from the event will go to the LCTCS Foundation for NWLTC student scholarships.

SUMMARY:3rd Annual Grilling on Main
DESCRIPTION:If you’re 18 or older & think you can cook the best BBQ in the area\, sign up and prove it! The Cook-Off will be judged in 3 categories: Brisket\, Chicken & Ribs and the entry fee is $150. Set up will begin on Friday morning and there will be a Corn Hole Tournament and fireworks to end the day. The tasting/judging will be held on Saturday\, wrapping up around 5pm. There will be $7\,500 in Cash Prizes for 1st-8th places in each category & a $500 Cash Prize for People’s Choice. There will also be a cash prize for our top local cookers.
